My Art

I Love Doing Collaborations with Artist Friends!

Ryan Graeff of Restitution Press invited me to do a quick collab with him this weekend for the CITYSCAPE show at LAVA Collective in London!

We only had a bit of time so we started with an old print of his, I washed in a tiny bit of purple, and sewed some bits of painted paper stuff into it, then he printed back on it, and I sewed into it some more, and he painted a bit more and here’s what we came up with (detail underneath):

The show opens Nov. 5th, 2009 and runs for two weeks. Be sure to check it out if you’re in London!

It has been a long time…

I was working crazy hours for a minute there (actually a couple months) on a TV production. Turns out offices are really not the place that I shine ;)

BUT – now I’m in an awesomely creative, huge print studio with a bunch of other print artists and I finally have actual ROOM to make stuff, not just my bedroom to make stuff! There’s room for me to set up and sew, and I’ve been printing these awesome hoodies and tshirts with reflective silk screen ink. Here’s a backside photo of one that I hand dyed.  I just brought a few over to Orange 20 so go check em out!

PaperWorks Laboratories (who is also selling my photo book) is rocking a black one of these hoodies, as is Cole from team Rapha, and Randy from Team Midnight Ridazz who is up in SF about to head back down to LA by bicycle with the AIDS Life Cycle!

Biking for Obama gets patched!

OK – this photo is like a month old at this point, but the night before Ryan left on his “Biking for Obama” trip from LA to DC, he came over and I made him reflective patches for his bike panniers!

Check out his website at www.BikingForObama.com where you can follow his journey and listen to interviews and experiences from the road!!

“Even The Girls” film update!!

So I just got an email from Ayleen Crotty over at ‘Filmed by Bike’ (Portland, OR) that my film “Even the Girls” made it onto their Greatest Hits v.1 DVD!!!!

Here’s the press release from Filmed by Bike:

“Uh, we’re kind of jumping out of our saddles right now. We just finished our *Greatest Hits v.1 DVD*, in partnership with Stumptown Printers.

We crammed together crowd favorites from the last six years of Filmed by Bike all onto one DVD. Then we handed it over to the masters at Stumptown Printers. Stumptown has a new DVD package that’s made of all recycled materials and has no adhesives to hold it together. Fancy folding, that’s all it needs. So they designed up a very cool package for our new Greatest Hits DVD, and we love it. And along the way, CDForge masterfully replicated 1,000 copies of the DVD.

The DVD is covered in rich artwork and full of the best short independent bike movies like only Filmed by Bike can do. Buy yours today and support FBB!”

I’m not on the flyer, but..

I’m in the show!

Come to my art exhibit Sat night!!

Opening Oct 11th - come on out!!

I have lots of new work!! I’ve been super busy since getting back from the Hudson River. I was planning on having a slide show presentation of the photo’s I shot on “Swimming Cities of Switchback Sea” but that will have to wait until I am done with installing my 1/4 of this show opening on Sat night.

I’m going to be displaying pieces in all my favorite media including painted and printed wood panels, image transfers, and glass over welded reused bicycle cogs. I’ll also have a self-published edition of my first photo zine (with the help of an inherited printer). It’s the cream of my crop of bicycle photo’s from over the years and over the country. I’m really, really excited about it because I’ve been wanting to do this for a-w-h-i-l-e. And of course I’ll be wearing my favorite smock to the opening ;)

Looking forward to seeing everyone there!!

Swimming Cities of Switchback Sea.

There are seven sister boats of Switchback Sea.

Althea is the steam boat built by Kinetic Steam Works from the Bay Area. A crew of KSW people came out and will be with us throughout the journey. I can’t wait to learn about steam!!

Maria is next to Althea in the photo below. She is operated with a GASIFIER, and is supposed to run on stuff like coffee grinds and eggshells. Right now it still is powered by gasoline but that will be fixed soon! This is the boat that will host the majority of the performance, written by Lisa D’Amour. Alas I do not have a solo part but I will be singing my heart out in the group songs!

This is Alice. She is unbearably beautiful. I will grace you with photo’s of her insides soon! I’m tempted to travel on this boat but am weary because of the lack of shade. I have a feeling though, that I will get to crew all the boats…

Speaking of crew – that’s me. Deck hand. Today is filled with knot learning and water safety training and other important stuff. We even had a lecture on the history of the Hudson River. And amazingly – it is – mostly – safe to swim in these days!! (except after a rain storm or near sewage treatment plants of course)

Amira’s new bag!

Whipped this sucker up for Miss Amira right before I left for Troy. It is now home to Ruffy (as in Ruf Ruf dog bark), as you can see.

I wasn’t planning on selling any of these right away but…

Shawn saw this one and really really really wanted it and who can really say no to Shawn? So now it’s his wallet.
